This report provides a profile of alcohol, fatigue and speed related crashes within the southern region. This regional profile covers the three year period 1996 to 1998. Both inter and intra regional comparisons are provided along with details of the crash characteristics. Within the southern region 35% of all crashes involved at least one of the factors of alcohol, fatigue of speeding. These factors have long been recognised as high risk behaviours associated with crashes and therefore are continually targeted within the behaviour strategies. This report aims at providing a profile of crahses involving these factors within the southern region allowing a deeper understanding of the problems which in turn will assist in the development of strategies within the road safety program in the region.
