While Jamberoo Valley has long been held in high esteem for its scenic values, the Minnamurra River estuary in particular has become increasingly recognised for its ecological significance. Some measure of community recognition of the latter is evident from the fact that environmental issues featured most prominently in community representations on an earlier road proposal between Minnamurra and Bombo; 74% of all submissions involved the Minnamurra River wetland either directly or indirectly(Roads & Traffic Authority, 1989b). Construction of the proposed roadway within the Minnamurra River catchment will thus significantly challenge two strongly-held concerns within, and indeed beyond, the local community.
